So here at Boyd Brokerage, we bring you this blog to educate you more in spices, the market, and general knowledge about what Culinologist are doing to make your food taste better. We like to bring you recipes that profile some of our favorite customers, and how you can make your dinner even better. Today, we are introducing Thirsty Thursday, where every Thursday we will post amazing drink ideas for your weekend ahead. These drinks can be alcoholic or non-alcoholic but always refreshing.

For the first Thirsty Thursday, we wanted to do something that is decently popular, easy to make, and great to drink. A watermelon cooler is perfect for the beginning of summer when you’re bringing that BBQ out and enjoying the heat with some friends. Here is how you make it:

  • 3 pounds of watermelon
  • 2 tablespoons fresh mint
  • 1 tablespoon superfine sugar
  • ice
  • 1 1/4 cups ginger ale
  • 1/4 cup vodka (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (Try True Citrus!)
  • 3-4 splashes of bitters
  • mint for garnish

In a food processors, puree the watermelon and in a large pitcher muddle the mint with the sugar. Fill the large pitcher with ice and stir in 2 cups of the puree, ginger ale, vodka (optional), lemon juice, and bitters. Garnish with fresh mint and you’re done!

This drink is sweet and perfect for the summer, with the option of adding vodka or not. If you’re not sure what bitters is, click here to learn more about it.
