Make this Slow Cooker Pulled Turkey for Dinner Tonight

Slow Cooker Turkey Sandwiches

Today is the last day of September, lets take a moment to reflect on that, and like me some of you are probably not ready to let summer go yet. Well we don’t have to. Instead of diving into the fall foods everyone is obsessed over, I am sticking to fun dishes that still give me the feeling of summer, even if we aren’t technically in that season anymore.

For dinner tonight why not grab out your crock pot and make this awesome pulled turkey recipe that will remind you of summer but is super simple to make. All you need is, of course, your slow cooker, a red onion, turkey, a few spices, and extra time to do whatever you want. Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 red onion, chopped
  • 4 turkey thighs
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • kosher salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Directions:

On the bottom of your slow cooker, spread your red onions. Taking your turkey and rub your chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper on it, and place them over your onions in the slow cooker. In a separate bowl, mix together your ketchup, mustard, and brown sugar then spread over your turkey. Cook for about 5-6 hours on a low heat or 3-4 hours on a high heat. You know your turkey is done when it begins to tear easily and fall off the bone. After the cooking is finished let your turkey sit for ten minutes. Shred the turkey and stir in your apple cider vinegar and add more salt and pepper if needed.
